UFA Kristallpalast - Dresden, Germany
The unusual and impressive building from 1998 is a deconstructionist architecture by the Viennese architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au. Deconstructionism is a form of criticism which tries to work out deep-seated contradictions. In this case the building with its crystal-like structure enveloped in a glass shell tries to build a contradiction to the surrounding high-rise uniform buildings of the former East-German era. Himmelb(l)au won the German Architectural Prize for the design.
