Moustiers-Sainte-Marie - Alpes-de-Haut-Provence, France

The village Moustiers is located at the western entrance of the Gorges du Verdon and is perched on the slopes of two limestone cliffs. Above the town, a gold-painted star hangs on a 225 m long chain between the two cliffs, according to the legend since the 10th century. Of course, the star and the chain have been replaced several times since then. The current star is about 50 years old. It was rehung after a snap of the chain in 2002 using a helicopter. The star can be seen if you click the image to see it in large.
