Pont du Gard - France
Ancient Roman aqueduct bridge across the Gardon River in South France, possibly built in 40-60 AD. With a height of 49 m and a length of 274 m, the bridge is an imposing architectural construction which was built without use of mortar and clamps. Its purpose was - as a part of the 50 km long waterway construction - to carry water from a spring in Uzès to the Roman colony Nemausus (Nimes).
